UGI And PPL Customers To Save On Monthly Bills Starting In July

06.18.2018

Northeast Pa - A tax relief credit effective at the beginning of July will take a little heat off the average UGI Penn Natural Gas monthly bill.

The gas utility, which services about 172,000 customers in 13 Northeast Pennsylvania counties, announced that monthly bills will decrease by an average of $2.01 because of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017.

The decrease reflects a 3.9 percent credit on the base rate portion of a customer's bill, which is made up of the customer charge and distribution charge.

Paul Szykman, UGI chief regulatory officer, said in a statement the utility is happy to pass on benefits to consumers and thanked the PUC.

“The credit provides additional savings to customers on their energy bill,” Szykman said. “Combined with the competitive price of economical, locally produced natural gas, Pennsylvania homes and businesses continue to receive a clear benefit.”

PPL Electric Utilities announced earlier that it too will offer relief by dropping the distribution portion of its bills by 7 percent starting July 1.

UGI's refund comes on the heels of an announcement that its bills will drop 2.8 percent beginning Dec. 1, which will reduce monthly statements by about another $2.

The PUC allows gas utilities to adjust their rates each quarter to reflect changes in the wholesale price of gas. They cannot profit on the gas they sell, just on the delivery.
