Two Massive Warehouse Projects to Moving Forward in Archbald and Mayfield

Scranton, Lackawanna County, PA - Two large warehousing projects on mine-scarred land along the Casey Highway in Archbald, Carbondale Twp. and Mayfield plan to start work in early 2025.

Century Development Associates of Reading plans to build two warehouses totaling nearly 1.4 million square feet in Mayfield and Archbald at the end of Rushbrook Street near Exit 5 on the Casey Highway. Easton-based Langen Development Economics intends to construct 2.55 million square feet of warehouses divided across three buildings on either side of Meredith Street in Carbondale Twp. and Mayfield near the Casey Highway’s Exit 6.

With a booming Midvalley warehousing industry landing major tenants like Amazon and Chewy in recent years, developers have increasingly looked north to the Upvalley to build the sprawling logistics buildings.

Both Century and Langen brought their plans to their respective municipalities in early 2022, and nearly three years later, the heads of both firms plan to start work early next year.

Powell has not yet decided which lot he will prepare first, but he estimates he’ll be ready to start construction on the first building by September. Construction will take about a year — or 10 months if the weather is good, he said. He’d then likely start building the second warehouse when the first is about halfway done.

Between the two buildings, he estimates it will create 500 to 700 jobs, with pay ranging from $20 to $40 an hour, with most jobs being in the $20 to $30 range.

One exit away, developer Shawn Langen, who most recently was involved in developing a 1-million-square-foot Amazon warehouse in Olyphant, plans to build three 850,000-square-foot warehouses along Meredith Street. One warehouse will be in Mayfield, one in Carbondale Twp. and one divided between the towns.

Langen said he is looking to start construction in the spring.
