The Pocono Mountains Municipal Airport Expansion is Taking Off

06.18.2018

Coolbaugh Township, Monroe County - The Pocono Mountains Municipal Airport may be small, but it brings big economic benefits.

" lots of activity here," says Dave Moyer, Board Chairman, Pocono Mountains Municipal Airport.

Owners, employees, and guests of well-known local attractions regularly use the airport and store their planes there.

"There is, generally, someone in and out of here a few times a day," Moyer adds.

The airport recently received several major grants to build t-hangars, which store smaller, recreational planes.

"T-hangars are like little garage units, kind of the best way to describe it. So, each plane will be nested in its own little unit," explains Greg Christine, Board Member, Pocono Mountains Municipal Airport.

That leaves more room in the spacious box hangars to keep larger, corporate jets.

"In order to keep expanding, to be able to allow for more planes, we have to do projects like this," Christine adds.

Airport board members say one of the big reasons Kalahari Resort built locally is because it's easy to fly in and out.

"It was close proximity for them. They're a few minutes from the hotel, so they could bring their workers, bring their chefs," Moyer explains.

From the chopper, the pilot pointed out Kalahari, Mount Airy, Camelback, Pocono Manor, and the Pocono Raceway. They are some of the airport's many clients.

"Brings a lot of growth to our area and supports our local businesses," Moyer says.

The Pocono Mountains Municipal Airport secured $3.7 million dollars in grants for its hangar project.
