Spanish Food Packaging Company Salaet Chooses Wayne County PA for First U.S. Operations

02.24.2025

Lake Ariel, Wayne County, PA - Salaet, a leading Spanish company specializing in sustainable food packaging, has officially selected Wayne County, PA, as the location for its U.S. headquarters. The company has acquired a lot in the Sterling Business and Technology Park, marking a significant step in its expansion into the American market.

Salaet looked at sites for two years before deciding on the 33,500-square-foot building it will occupy in Sterling. Wayne Economic Development Corporation (WEDCO), which owns and operates the Sterling Business and Technology Park, stated that with Salaet coming to the county, the region is poised to benefit from new job opportunities, economic investment, and a stronger foothold in the sustainable manufacturing sector.

"Public-private partnerships like these are what drive progress, and we can't wait to see the positive impact Salaet will have on Wayne County and beyond." said Justin Taylor, Executive Director of WEDCO.

Strategic Location and Modern Facilities

Salaet’s decision to establish operations in Sterling Business Park was driven by the park’s brand-new, modern facilities, which align perfectly with the company’s needs. Additionally, the location offers significant logistical advantages:

• Proximity to major transportation routes – The facility is near an Interstate, ensuring seamless distribution.
• Access to ocean freight ports – Key for international shipping operations.
• Close to existing and potential customers – Within a 45-minute radius, the company can efficiently serve its current clients, while a six-hour drive expands reach to a broad customer base.
• One-day reach to major markets – The site allows access to a wide network of potential customers within a day's drive.

Roger Villar Pique, Sales Director at Salaet, stated “Salaet has chosen Sterling Business Park in Wayne County, because the building is brand new, modern, and the right size. The location of the park is very close to the Interstate and ports for shipping, and within 45 minutes we can deliver to our existing customers, and potential new customers in a one days driving distance.”

John L. Augustine III, President/CEO of Penn’s Northeast, stated, "We are thrilled to welcome Salaet to Wayne County and Northeastern PA’s growing manufacturing sector. Their commitment to sustainability, job creation, and community engagement aligns perfectly with our region’s strengths. Salaet’s investment will have a lasting impact, strengthening our economy and reinforcing our regions reputation as a premier destination for international business."

“Penn’s Northeast was happy to coordinate with the PA Office of International Business Development, Cindy Hostletler, and our partners from WEDCO, Mary Beth Wood, Troy Bystrom, and Justin Taylor to bring Salaet to Northeastern PA.” added Augustine.

A Perfect Fit for Northeastern PA’s Manufacturing Industry

Northeastern Pennsylvania has a long-standing reputation as a hub for manufacturing excellence, making it an ideal home for Salaet. As a family-owned business originating from a small town in Spain, Salaet deeply understands the importance of strong ties between a company and the local community. The company is committed to fostering a positive impact in Wayne County by creating long-term career opportunities rather than just jobs.
Investment and Job Creation

Salaet is making a significant initial investment of approximately $7 million in its U.S. operations. This expansion is expected to create around 35 jobs by year three, though the company anticipates that this target could be reached even earlier. The company values its employees and has a history of multi-generational employment, with families working together at its headquarters in Gandesa, Spain.

Enhancing U.S. Market Presence

Salaet has been steadily growing in the U.S. market, producing and shipping from Europe over the past few years. The establishment of a local manufacturing facility will accelerate growth by:

• Reducing lead times for customers.
• Improving customer service and responsiveness.
• Enhancing problem resolution and understanding customer needs.
• Mitigating potential shipping disruptions.

Overall, the new facility will ensure a superior customer experience, reinforcing Salaet’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in food packaging.

Future Growth Plans

The company aims to have its Wayne County site operational by June or early July. However, Salaet is already planning for the future - discussions are underway for an additional lot purchase in the same area to accommodate further expansion. This forward-thinking approach will allow the company to scale operations efficiently as demand grows.

Salaet’s investment in Wayne County not only strengthens the region’s manufacturing sector but also underscores Pennsylvania’s attractiveness as a destination for international businesses. With sustainability at its core, the company’s expansion marks a promising chapter for both Salaet and the local economy.
