“Without PPL, we wouldn't be here”, declared WEDCO President Alfred Howell. WEDCO is at the threshold of building a new 252-acre business park-the first of its kind for Wayne County. PPL Utilities recently contributed $23,000 to WEDCO, which the economic development organization will use to defray some of the interest accrued from financing the project.
WEDCO is developing the business park in Sterling Township along Route 191, less than one mile north of exit 17 on I-84. Paul Canevari, PPL's Regional Manager, chaired WEDCO's site selection committee and had a significant role in finding and procuring the site.
“PPL has been supportive of this project since its inception in 2001”, stated Attorney Howell. “Their latest contribution further demonstrates PPL's commitment to economic development in Wayne County.”
“On behalf of WEDCO's Board of Directors, I would like to thank PPL Utilities, Paul Canevari, and Don Bernhard, Manager, Community and Economic Development, for their continued support.”
“PPL is pleased to play a part in the development of this business park”, stated Mr. Canevari. “Numerous, dedicated individuals have worked long and hard to see this project through.”
“Wayne County will reap the rewards of their planning and foresight for years to come through the jobs this business park will create.”
WEDCO recently completed a lengthy zoning and preliminary subdivision review process with Sterling Township. PA DEP permits are currently being pursued. Construction is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2006. Phase 1 will include interior roads, a state-of-the art wastewater treatment plant, central water system, and underground utilities.
The park will consist of 23 parcels, ranging from 3 to 30 acres. Five of the parcels will be solely for professional office use; the remainders are approved for manufacturing, warehousing and professional office use.
“This will be one of only two parks located on I-84 in Pennsylvania,” stated WEDCO Executive Director Robert Suhosky. “Ten minutes travel brings you to the confluence of I-84, I-81 and I-380.”
“We expect to attract businesses from nearby metro areas looking for lower capital and operating overhead costs, the quality of life afforded by our rural communities, and superb access to all the northeastern U.S. and Canadian markets.
