Mericle Commercial Real Estate Services announced plans to make a substantial capital investment within Lackawanna County by constructing a 140,000 square foot speculative flex building on 23 acres of land in the Jessup Small Business Center. The announcement was made by Senator Robert J. Mellow, Robert K. Mericle, president of Mericle Commercial Real Estate Services, and the Scranton Lackawanna Industrial Building Company (SLIBCO), the industrial development arm of The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce.
The Jessup Small Business Center is a 130-acre business park developed and owned by SLIBCO. Construction on the facility is slated to begin in Spring 2005 with potential occupancy in early Fall 2005. Mericle owns and leases more than 351,000 square feet of property in Lackawanna County.
"This project is the continuation of a partnership among Mericle, SLIBCO and the Scranton Plan," said Mr. Mericle. "Building speculative property has been our focus. This project will provide the community with a strategic advantage that will enable it to effectively compete for more job-creating projects."
"This project would not be possible without the cooperation of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Lackawanna County, Jessup Borough, the Valley View School District, and Mericle," stated Austin J. Burke, president of the Chamber. "We appreciate Senator Mellow's unwavering support of the Valley View Business Park and the Jessup Small Business Center. This is an outstanding example of what can be accomplished when all levels of government and private industry work together."
SLIBCO and the Lackawanna Industrial Fund Enterprises (LIFE) recently held a dedication for the Jessup Small Business Center. At the event, SLIBCO and LIFE honored former Lackawanna County commissioner Ray Alberigi by naming the main drive of the park in his honor. Also at the event, The Scranton Plan, the industrial marketing arm of the Chamber, announced that power sports industry leader Tucker Rocky is the first tenant of the Valley View Business Park.
SLIBCO is the Chamber's "bricks and mortar" arm, and has constructed most of Lackawanna County's industrial, business, office, and technology parks. In addition, SLIBCO has constructed and owns six major buildings totaling approximately 1.1 million square feet. Since its creation in 1946, SLIBCO working in concert with the Chamber's other development arms has developed more than 2,700 acres and has spearheaded more than 328 major development projects. These projects have created more than 20,000 jobs and have added more than $493 million in new real estate investment to the local economy.
