Pittston Twp., PA - E-commerce giant Amazon has opened in CenterPoint Commerce and Trade Park West in Pittston Township.

Amazon has moved into a 399,500-square-foot building constructed by Mericle Commercial Real Estate Services at 250 Enterprise Way, the fifth largest building in the park. Governor Tom Wolf announced earlier this year that Amazon.com will add at least 5,000 new full-time jobs in Pennsylvania over the next three years.

Amazon is the largest internet-based retailer in the world and is going to hire 350 hard-working new employees from Northeastern Pennsylvania.

The online retail and internet services giant runs 13 fulfillment warehouses and distribution centers in the state and also has a 650,000-square-foot fulfillment center in the Humboldt Industrial Park in Hazle Township. Last year, the company announced it was adding hundreds more full-time positions, bringing the workforce there to about 2,200.

The Hazle Township facility is the largest employer in the area's industrial parks and one of the area's largest commercial or industrial buildings. Quidsi, which is owned by Amazon.com, also has a distribution center in Covington Industrial Park in Lackawanna County.

Pennsylvania is one of the top employment centers for Amazon's giant retail warehouses.

As the shift to online and mobile shopping continues to grow, it has led to a number of fulfillment and distribution centers opening and creating more jobs in CenterPoint Commerce and Trade Park in Pittston and Jenkins townships in recent years. There are now 29 buildings in CenterPoint, totaling seven million square feet, consisting of firms such as Home Depot, Lowe's, Neiman Marcus and J.P. Boden.
