Celebrate the End of Summer in NEPA
Labor Day weekend, the goodbye party for the summer, the time we waited patiently to arrive, yet flew by way too quickly. Pretty soon, the leaves will be changing colors, the air will be getting just a little crisper and those days in the summer sun will be just a memory. Now’s the time to get in those last few days of sun and relaxation before we all get back into the swing of things. One of our favorite things about Northeastern Pennsylvania is the gorgeous outdoor setting of our region. Take this Labor Day weekend, and the last few warm days of the summer, to enjoy some of our favorite locations.
D&H Rail Trail
Stretch your legs and enjoy some fresh air before the cold weather hits Northeastern Pennsylvania. The D& H Rail Trail is 38 miles long and stretches from Simpson, PA to the New York border. Parts along the Lackawanna River have been improved making them perfect for biking and hiking. Experience some of the most breathtaking scenes in Northeastern Pennsylvania when you venture along D & H Trails, including a tree trail, views of streams and ponds, and so much more.
If you’re looking to spend a day enjoying the beautiful scenery and getting in touch with your adventurous side, then horseback riding may be the perfect choice. Brace’s Stables, located in Benton Pennsylvania, takes riders through the gorgeous NEPA scenery. Choose a ride though through the Pennsylvania Mountains or tour the scenic waterfalls and creeks all on horseback. Brace’s Stables can accommodate all levels of riders and is a great location for beginners to experience Northeastern Pennsylvania.
Montage Mountain Water Park
Sometimes the heat gets unbearable, and sometimes you just need an excuse to lounge in a Lazy River. Whatever the reasoning for taking a visit the Water Park at Montage Mountain, you won’t be disappointed. The Wave Pool and Cross Country Canal are great for lounging, and there are also several high intensity water slides to give you that adrenaline rush. Montage Mountain also hosts events such as Water Babies for the little ones and Adult Night for the kids at heart. There are more than just water rides on the mountain. Guests can get a rush on the zip rider, play a game of beach volleyball, or take a whack at the batting cages.
Bloomsburg Farmers’ Market
Everyone knows there’s nothing better than locally grown produce. Before the summer winds down make sure to sample some of the region’s best flavors at The Bloomsburg Farmers Market. Local vendors line Downtown Bloomsburg to see their grown products. fruits and vegetables, flowers, herbs and more. Vendors offer more than just delicious and fresh fruits and vegetables. Some vendors sell flowers, herbs, syrups and baked good, and even local meats and eggs. What’s better than fresh fruits and vegetables? Locally grown fruits and vegetables!
A delicious ice cream cone on a sunny day is pretty much the definition of summer. Hillside Farms is one of those special places you can visit whenever you’re looking to get back to basics. While there are hundreds of ice cream shops in the country, there are fewer local creameries. I swear, getting to actually see where your ice cream comes from does something good for your soul-it means so much more than just pulling it out of a grocery store freezer. The delicious ice cream is just part of the Hillside Farms experience. The dairy farm is also an educational farm for students and those interested in learning about dairy farming. Visitors can see, touch, taste, see and learn about nutrition, archaeology, ecology, animal husbandry and land conservation.
