Steelcase Announces its expansion in Humboldt Industrial Park
Hazleton, PA – Humboldt Industrial Park gains another business! Steelcase, an office furniture manufacturer is expanding their distribution centers. The leading manufacturer of furniture for offices, hospitals, and classrooms is growing from 135,000 square feet - up to 200,000 square feet. Tim Batdorff, the manager of the facility, believes that the extra 65,000 square feet will benefit serving the customers in Pennsylvania and New York more efficiently.
Steelcase's Humboldt Industrial plant is one of the three distribution centers Steelcase has on the east coast. Steelcase previously had a distribution center in the area for nine years, however for the first six and a half years it was operated by Penske Leasing. For the last two and a half years, Steelcase has had its own facilities. Currently, 75 people work at the Humboldt plant.
Humboldt Industrial Park is the largest industrial park in Greater Hazleton. The 3,000-acre park is located just off Exit 143 of Interstate 81 along State Route 924. The park is home to nearly 60 industries and more than 9,000 employees.
Joe Lettiere, Chairman of Penn's Northeast and Vice President of CAN DO, Hazleton's economic development organization, stated the building Steelcase occupies was built by a private developer. “This building is a perfect example of an investment made in the community by a private developer on speculation that has had multiple tenants,” Lettiere said. “With the expansion of Steelcase, we see stability in this real estate investment in our market, and the importance of having a building available for tenants to occupy immediately.”
