WEDCO's Activities

Sterling Business & Technology Park
Phase 1 of the 252-acre business park, located in Sterling Township, is ready to go.  This includes nine lots each with their land use approvals and NPDES (stormwater) permits.  The business park is located 0.6 mile north of exit 17 on Interstate 84 along Routes 191, 196 and 3004 (Moon Road).  Utilities include central sewer, central water with a water re-use system, three-phase power, and telecommunication options.  WEDCO just completed a 10-acre distribution yard for HD Supply Power Solutions, Orlando, FL on Lots 8 & 9.  Prospect activity has been significant.

Angel Network / Investment Capital
WEDCO is facilitating start-up of an Angel investment network to support entrepreneurial activities within the Wayne and Pike County region.  Interested investors should contact WEDCO at 570-253-5334.

Technology Infrastructure
WEDCO convened a Technology Committee in 2011 to address the fundamental broadband (and other technology) requirements for economic growth.   Committee goals are to increase technology infrastructure, increase technology investment, and attract/retain technology companies for Wayne County.  Our committee consists of WEDCO Board members, area businesses, a County Commissioner, County Department of Planning, and workforce partners.  We have discussed various models of a business-class broadband network, including ownership models and network architecture.  We have met with various telecommunication vendors and talked with multiple entities about ways to improve services in our rural region.

Business Assistance
Retaining and expanding our local business base is our number one priority.  WEDCO continues to meet one-one-one with businesses to learn about their needs and connect them to the region's robust business assistance network.

WEDCO has joined others in taking a stand that all new development regulations imposed upon our County must be evaluated for their full economic impact.  We will continue working with our government officials/agencies on regional initiatives to make sure Wayne County is fully represented.

Promoting Our Members

We have expanded our online Business Directory to include searches for products and services. WEDCO membership is also acknowledged in newspapers and special event programs.  WEDCO members also receive preferential referrals.

Our Annual Meeting & Dinner, Sustaining Membership luncheon and Innovator of the Year luncheon feature prominent speakers and provide valuable networking opportunities.

Marketing Wayne County Properties

Available industrial and commercial properties  are marketed on three on-line databases.

WEDCO'S History

WEDCO incorporated almost 60 years ago as a private, non-profit organization dedicated to creating jobs and improving the prosperity of the citizens of Wayne County, Pennsylvania.

In January 1955, Wayne Industrial Development Corporation (WIDCO) – now known as WEDCO – was formally incorporated. Over 200 individuals representing numerous businesses signed on as incorporators and contributed the sum of $20 to the new corporation. The list of original incorporators is a veritable who’s who in Wayne County business and community leadership during the 1950s. WEDCO staff quickly involved themselves with activities typical of any of today’s economic development organizations.

Half a century later, WEDCO continues as Wayne County’s lead economic development organization, providing the services needed to bring new business to the county, support business that is already here, improve the local tax base, and enhance the quality of life of area residents.

WEDCO is a non-profit corporation comprised of businesses in partnership with state, county, and municipal government that realize a bright economic future depends on investing and planning today. Current membership totals 200.
