Iconic Stroudsburg Hotel, The Penn Stroud, Making Comeback

Stroudsburg, PA - Stroudsburg is a popular tourist area in Northeastern Pennsylvania. An iconic piece of Stroudsburg, The Penn-Stroud Hotel, has been under renovations and is almost ready to help bring downtown back to life!

A tour of the historic property took place on May 3rd, during ‘Pennsylvania’s Small Business Week’ with DCED Deputy Secretary Carrie Lepore, Senator Mario Scavello, Stroudsburg's Mayor Tarah Probst, Michelle Bisbing from the Pocono Mountains Economic Development Corporation and many other local dignitaries who enjoyed touring the building.

Stroudsburg's Mayor, Tarah Probst says it's going to be a slam dunk for Downtown Stroudsburg.

The Penn Stroud opened in 1833. It has changed owners and names throughout the years, but has always stayed as a hotel.

The hotel needed some major updating and more work than originally expected. The Patel family took over and closed the hotel last March for renovations.  Keyur Patel, Penn Stroud's new co-owner and developer said they dove right into starting the renovations.

The new owners decided to gut and completely remodel the building while preserving some historic elements, like the original brick wall. Guests will also reconnect with its history through old photographs on-display.
The new hotel will feature 88 rooms, an indoor swimming pool and a fitness center. New additions will be added to compliment its original, classic feel. The hotel is expected to create about 18 jobs - 14 being full-time in the next three years.

Through an approximate $1.69 million loan from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s Building PA program — as well as some county-based funding - the hotel on the corner of 7th and Main streets will be ready for a fall or winter 2017 opening.

The owners also received a separate $400,000 loan, as well as a $50,000 internal loan through the Pocono Mountains Economic Development Corporation.

Owners hope to have the new Penn-Stroud open by fall or winter of 2017.
