Hershey Expanding Kit-Kat Operations & Adding Over 100 New Jobs to Luzerne County

Hazle Township, PA - The Hershey Company broke ground on a $60 million expansion of its Kit-Kat manufacturing line in the Humboldt Industrial Park. The project will bring more than 100 new jobs to Luzerne County by the end of the year and position the iconic candy bar to become the chocolate company’s next billion-dollar brand.

“Our plant here in Hazleton has long been a high-performing and valued facility,” said Todd Tillemans, president of Hershey’s U.S. business. “It was clear our manufacturing investment should be made here.”

State Sen. John Yudichak, D-Plymouth Township, said the new jobs will bring the total number of employees at the plant, which manufactures Cadbury, Caramello and Kit Kat products, to over 580.

"I think for this community, it's important because these are great, high-paying jobs. And the employees here should be very proud that we have extreme confidence. This is a hard-working community that we're confident that investing here will get a high return," said Todd Tillemans, Hershey's U.S. president.

This expansion project will bring more than 100 jobs to the Hazleton area. The new production jobs in Hazle Township are expected to pay between $17 and $22 an hour. Company officials said the positions will include production operators, HVAC specialists, maintenance mechanics and controls specialists.

”We’re actually increasing our workforce by 27%, which is fantastic. And these are skilled, good paying jobs, Steve Knight, Hazle Twp. plant manager, said.

"It's the best manufacturer in the world, so to have that here in greater Hazleton, in the (Interstate) 81 corridor, where we're creating thousands of manufacturing jobs, over 15,000 manufacturing jobs from Hazleton to Pittston. Hershey is leading the way," said State Sen. John Yudichak, (D) 14th District.

Job applications are now being accepted, and that will continue as the expansion project progresses, company officials said.

"It says a lot about what they believe that we're doing here in Hazleton. It's a great feeling to knowing that your job is secure because they believe in us and it helps us believe in ourselves, too," Victoria Butala said.

”As an employee of the Hershey Hazleton facility, I think there’s great opportunity, room for advancements, so we’re really excited! We’re real excited,” employee Pam Holderman said.
